Construction of wooden boats in the north of France

We passionately build many types of traditional river boats: escutes, bacôves, baudequins, Picardy flats, horn boats, fishing boats, etc.

Welcome to the last boat builders of Saint-Omer, experts in naval carpentry

The naval carpenters of Saint-Omer, designing the cogue, the escute, the bacôve and other wooden boats, have always been referred to as "boat makers". A street in Saint-Omer, located in the Faubourg du Haut-Pont and along the Neufossé canal, even bears the name of "street of the boat makers" in homage to these many craftsmen who once took up residence in this typical Audomaroise alley. . Today, the suburb of Lyzel is home to the last workshop of boat builders.

Visits to the Audomarois marsh, but also a workshop for building traditional wooden boats

If the Builders of boats offer during the beautiful season visits and boat rental within the audomarois marshes, their activity does not stop there. Transmitting the passion is one thing, but it is still necessary to safeguard this heritage.
Let's go back a bit: passionate about this disappearing profession, Remy Colin decided in 2007 to continue his studies in the wood trades. He opted for a marine carpentry specialty at the renowned Arcachon school. Back in his native marshes, Gérard Colin, a former boat builder, passed on his secret knowledge and know-how to him. Remy built his first escute, then his first bacôve under the watchful eye of the master. It was faultless! From then on, the adventure could begin. Remy also trained his father Vincent there. Both are now the last boat builders in Saint-Omer.
