The Baudequin type wooden boat: for fishing and walking

The Baudequin once served as an annex to the northern barges. Its look and its size now lends itself to small yachting.

The wooden boat "Le Baudequin"

The baudequin, a beautiful French wooden boat, was once a rescue boat for the sailors who regularly accompanied the barges on their journeys. This type of boat was very common in the XNUMXth century. Today we can qualify it as a “traditional French boat”.

Boat for fishermen par excellence, suitable for family outings, this one is characterized by its flat bottom, its modest size and its clean lines, but also its stability and maneuverability.

Want to buy a wooden boat for fishing or walking?

Opt for the barrel-type oak wooden boat, traditionally built in the boat makers' workshop!
Indeed, the Boat Makers still design the classic baldric, endeavoring to keep the tradition alive. Isn't it as efficient, if not more, than a plastic or fiberglass boat? Not to mention that it does not lack class!

Fishermen and hunters will appreciate the qualities of this boat. It will be the same for families or any lover of walks and getaways in small rivers or on lakes.

Its size, 4 to 5 m long, easily allows to embark 5 people. The fisherman easily transports his equipment there and can lay his lines without running out of space. In addition, the shape of the rear peak makes it possible to add an engine to it.

The robust construction and the use of oak make this boat an exceptional boat!

History of Baudequin

Formerly accompanying barges on the canals, the baudequin quickly became very popular on many fresh waterways in France, particularly within the audomarois marshes. Later, an evolution of the baldric replaced the latter. This is the boat, which was used from the 1920s to walk in the marsh of Saint-Omer. Families used it on Sundays and we used to be able to rent one in the Lyzel marsh or at the historic Moulin Rouge guinguette.
The “Baudequin” type wooden boat can be handled using classic oars fitted into oarlocks. Ekke is also piloted using a ruie, a long and thin oar used on the escutes of Saint-Omer. Finally, it is now common to attach a 4 to 5 horsepower heat engine, or an electric motor, to the rear panel.
