The construction of the medieval boat is launched thanks to our contributors!

This Saturday, May 13, 2017 was, for our team, the opportunity to invite some of our contributors who helped finance the wood for the cogue via the Cowfunding platform.

An opportunity to meet up, discuss the project and snack on delicious homemade waffles while sipping organic apple juice!

Everyone was able to discover the workshop, the traditional construction of the bacôve as well as its ancestor, the cogue, which sailed with more than 10 tons of goods in our region.

For the moment, the boards are cut and dry in the sun. Meanwhile, the base of the cogue announces extraordinary dimensions! Only the keel plank and the aft bow are in place, but these two key pieces hint at the colossal size of this boat.

14 meters long, 3 wide, 2 high… Within three years it will be a copy of Beutin's boat, the wreck of which was found in the Canche. Eventually, it will be the only cog in the region capable of sailing... This is why the various stages of the project will be monitored by the CNRS. Will our cogue answer certain questions that have long plagued historians and scientists?

After a guided tour of our exhibition dedicated to Saint-Omer in the Middle Ages, when our beautiful city was a powerful seaport, the evening ended...
