By remaining ourselves

It all started with a shipyard that sought to defy time and modernity by continuing the tradition of traditional boats in the Audomarois marsh. Very quickly, to survive, the shipyard diversified to open up to visitors. There were very difficult times. Long days waiting for summer visitors, 7 days a week, sometimes (almost) in vain. There were 7 of us. Then friends joined the company. We multiplied the sites, we undertook many projects: school trips, seminars, boat and canoe rentals, opening a bar-restaurant... We even launched a brand of beer! At the same time, visitors multiplied. Each one left us nice little words on the rating platforms. Now, thanks to them, thanks to you, we occupy the second place of the most visited companies in Hauts de France and we proudly display a 2 out of 4,9 with more than 5 reviews on Google and Trip Advisor! 🙂 Thank you for everything. You are amazing!

What our visitors appreciate most

Our leitmotif: to welcome everyone as we would like to be welcomed and to show them our marsh, our life, and that of our ancestors.

Yes, it sounds a bit like a native reserve, but aren't we, in our own way, the "last of the Mohicans"?

Here are some little extras that our visitors generally remember:

Traditional boats

No plastic boats (except Canadian canoes), no aluminum. Just wooden boats typical of Northern France.

Electric motors

For your comfort, that of your neighbors, and for the ecosystems, all our boats are equipped with electric motors, whether for self-guided or guided tours. Of course, we strive to adopt the top of the range, combining autonomy, total silence, and performance (Torqeedo Travel engines).

Visits on a human scale

At the Bateaux Faiseurs, tours are conducted in small groups on boats with a dozen passengers. The exchanges with the guide take place naturally in a friendly atmosphere, without a microphone.

The sense of welcome

At Les Faiseurs de Bateaux, we strive to welcome you like friends coming home. This was already the case 12 years ago, and it's still the case despite our 24 visitors per season. We take our time, we joke, we experience moments together. This is what gets us up in the morning.

The workshop visit

The big plus is that we are craftsmen and our construction site is a living workspace that we offer tours of. This is a bonus offered with the guided tour.

Local cuisine

Yes, Les Faiseurs de Bateaux is also an unusual open-air tavern where you can eat northern specialties using ultra-short supply chains. It's certainly in the air, but "greenwashing" isn't our cup of tea. We favor local artisans and producers because their products are delicious and they are now friends embarking on the adventure.

Enthusiastic

Our strength also lies in a team of enthusiasts. Many were born and/or live in the marsh, know the area like the back of their hand... or have simply fallen in love with our rivers. In short, a close-knit team eager to bring their heritage to life.

A unique site

Just a decade ago, there was nothing but a fallow field here. And from a pile of earth and nettles, an island of life and greenery appeared at the water's edge. A 6000m² park with its organic fields, pontoons, terrace, small bridge, exhibitions of old machines, reed beds... In short, a timeless setting on the edge of St-Omer.

Multiple professions

At the Bateaux, you'll find a condensed version of the marsh's trades. On the boats, in the workshop, on the terrace, at the bar... You might be chatting with a market gardener, a shipwright, a woodcarver, a photographer, or a historian. Perhaps it's the accountant who serves you a drink? The team members are all multi-taskers and multi-hatted.

The meaning of events

Every year, our group of friends hosts hundreds of groups, seminars, concerts... Every day, there's a new event to put together. Always in a good mood and always taking great care of our customers.

An ecological site

At the Bateaux Builders, the facilities have no impact on nature. Nothing is concreted, nothing is solid. We run on electric power on the boats, we've adopted dry toilets... Everything here is designed to be in harmony with the marsh and its inhabitants.

A multitude of recognitions

Our lifestyle, our commitments and our motivations have earned us the status of the second most visited company in Hauts de France, the Living Heritage Company label and our membership in numerous networks: UNESCO eco-actors, Proscitec, Entreprise et découverte, Sélection Tourisme Pas de Calais, etc.
